Adopting a Greyhound...
The first step is to complete and mail us an application. The application form can be downloaded from the links on the bottom of this page, and is also available at our Meet and Greets. Next, a G.A.G.C. Placement Representative will call you to introduce ourselves, explain the process, answer your questions, and to learn more about you. Two meetings are then scheduled, including a visit to your home. Our experienced Placement Representatives can help you prepare for your new arrival and point out any potential concerns. During these meetings, we will work with you to identify the sex, age, and personality traits of the dog that will make the best fit for your situation.
Then we will make contacts with racing kennels where we have established working relationships in order to locate the dog with the right personality for you. The full process can take several weeks to two months depending upon the type of dog desired and availability. We will also make you aware of any greyhounds we have locally in a foster care home that would make a good match as well. Prior to arrival of your dog, he/she will be spayed/neutered, vet checked, and given all needed vaccinations. We do try to give you as much advance notice as we can on the arrival date of your dog, so you can be prepared. The process may seem a little long and involved, but we know from our experience that being thorough up front is in everyone’s best interest (including the dog) for the long run. It is our objective to make the best possible match. This is best accomplished by discussing the greyhound’s needs and characteristics, which helps to determine if this is the right breed of dog for you. Click either of these links to download our Adoption Application: Note: Download times may vary. Allow at least a minute for either file. Here are a couple very good books that we recommend reading prior to adoption:
